Disciplines

BALLET:
Classical, Characterdance from the classical ballet repertoire, Neoclassic. Original choreographies (eg.Swanlake, La Bayadere etc.) and newly created choreohraphies are permitted. Pure classical Technique, in soft shoes or pointe shoes. (12 years up)

NATIONAL/FOLKLORIC DANCE:
Original choreography is allowed but not necessary.The folkloric dance tradition must be preserved. The costumes and music must reflect the folkloric tradition.

CONTEMPORARY/ MODERN DANCE/LYRICAL:

Contemporary: Experimential choreography  that seeks to continue and develop new dance vocabulary

Modern: Emotive and narrative dance that reflects the techniques and characteristics of the modern dance pioneers such as Martha Graham, Jose Limon, Lester Horton.

Lyrical:  Continuation of modern dance technique that enables freedom of expression and movement inspired by the lyrics and  the musicial content.

OPEN/COMMERCIAL-MTV DANCE:

A fusion of different dance styles with newly created choreographies inspired by the MTV tradition, variety shows etc. All techniques allowed.  

THEATER VOCAL:

Appropriate song and lyrics for age and talent, correct vocal range, pitch and tone quality, diction, enunciation and elocution, voice projection, strong self image, body movements, stage presence, handling of microphone, breath control and over all entertainment value. (Original music is always encouraged for all styles when possible.) Performance in all categories and age groups allowed. Themes from musicals, dance films and commercial point of singing-rap, rock, pop ... can be used. The performance of dancers and background singers allowed. Evaluation of the complete impression.

THEATER DANCE:
contains JAZZ, MUSICAL THEATER and TAP

• JAZZ: The music must reflect the jazz tradition. Can be from theatre style, latin jazz, artistic jazz, lyrical jazz. The styles and steps must reflect jazz dance technique (eg. lay outs, jazz pirouettes, jumps etc.).

• MUSICAL THEATER: All styles are permitted including both classical and contemporary musicals.
Examples: from the 1930 ( Singing in the rain, Oklahoma, Cabaret, Sweet Charity) up to the present day (Mamma Mia, Producers, Chicago, Wicked, etc.). Storyline, characterisation and costume must reflect the chosen musical theatre peace. Musical character must be recognizable.

• TAP: Must have clear tap technique. Appropriate choice of music is essential. No tap sounds are permitted on the music track
 

HIP HOP: 
Pertaining to the hip-hop category the choreography must place consideration to different styles of hip hop such as eg. Oldschool and Newschool.

Oldschool includes: popping, locking, jazzrock, hype
Newschool includes: newstyle, krumpin, dance hall.
Housedance is considered in the category, which includes: wacking, voguing, experimental. Use choreography to be inspired, but do not copy.  Abusive language and violent expression are forbidden in the music and performance. Acrobatic/Break movements are allowed but dancing has to be dominant.

BREAKDANCE:
Styles within breakdance are: footwork (eg: six-step, knee-step), up-rock (eg: battle-rock, indian-step), powermoves (eg: headspin, windmills), freezes (clash, baby-freeze), acrobatics (eg: flips/screws, butterflies). Freestyle sections are permitted but must not dominate.

ACRO DANCE:
Most important is the predominant inclusion of dance elements. All styles are allowed but must be creative in interpretation. It will be judged as a dance and not as a gymnastic number.

PRODUCTION NUMBER:
Must have a clear theme that takes you on a theatrical journey that has a beginning, middle and end.
All dance styles are allowed.
Only for groups (9 +).

STREETSTYLEZ:
contains Disco Style, Street Style

Qualification for the disciplines STREETSTYLEZ only possible directly at the WDM 2010 in Porec, Croatia.

• DISCO STYLE:
Solo:
- Music choosen by the organizer
- Duration: 1 min
- Tempo: 33/35 tacts per minute (130/140 bmp)
- The competitors in the semifinals dance firstly by two and than all together in a group for 1 min so the judges can compare them (a group can be up to 20 dancers)
- The competitors in the finals dance firstly 1 by 1  and than all 6 at the same time for 1 min
- Allowed steps: all disco moves, pirouettes, jumps
- Rhythm, breaks and variety of steps will be highly rated
- Gymnastic elements forbidden

Pair/Trio:
- Music choosen by the organizer
- Duration: 1 min
- Tempo: 33/35 tacts per minute (130/140 bmp)
- The competitors in the semifinals dance firstly two pairs at a time and than all together in a group for 1 min so the judges can compare them (a group can consist of 10 pairs max.)
- The competitors in the finals dance firstly 1 pair at a time and than all 6 pairs at the same time for 1 min
- Allowed steps: all disco moves, pirouettes, jumps
- Rhythm, breaks and variety of steps will be highly rated
- Gymnastic elements forbidden

Group and formation:
- Music of own choice
- Duration – group: 2-3 min
- Duration – formation: 3-4 min
- Tempo: 33/35 tacts per minute (130/140 bmp)
- In the finals, there can be up to 6 groups/formations with the highest number of points
- Allowed steps: all disco moves, pirouettes, jumps
- Rhythm, breaks and variety of steps, as well as training and formation changes will be highly rated

• STREET STYLE:

Solo, Pair/Trio:
- Music of own choice
- Duration: 1,30 – 2 min
- Allowed steps: all disco moves, hip hop, break electric
- Rhythm, breaks and variety of steps will be highly rated
- The choreography must tell a story, from its beginning to the end
- Stage supplies allowed
- It's very important to achieve an overall picture of music, ideas, dance steps, costumes and stage supplies.
- Gymnastic elements allowed.

Group and formation:
- Music of own choice
- Duration – groups:  2 – 3 min
- Duration – formations: 3 – 4 min
- Allowed steps: all disco moves, hip hop, break electric
- Rhythm, breaks and variety of steps will be highly rated
- The choreography must tell a story, from its beginning to the end
- Stage supplies allowed
- It's very important to achieve an overall picture of music, ideas, dance steps, costumes and stage supplies.
- Gymnastic elements allowed.
- In the finals, there can be up to 6 groups/formations with the highest number of points from the semifinals
